Technical Datasheet: Microscan IB-3PC
Model/Type: IB-3PC Keyboard Wedge / Interface Box
Part Number: 98-000049-01
Associated System Component: Microscan MS-3 Laser Scanner Series
1. Product Overview & Application
The Microscan IB-3PC is a specialized keyboard wedge and communication interface module designed to sit between a Microscan industrial barcode scanner (such as the MS-3) and the host computer/terminal.
-
Primary Function: Converts the scanner’s raw serial RS-232 data into standard keyboard emulation signals. This setup allows the scanner to send barcode data directly into any active text field on the host PC as if it were typed on a physical keyboard.
-
Hardware Setup Matrix: * Compatible Scanner: MS-3 Laser Scanner (FIS-0003-XXXXG)
-
Interface Box: IB-3PC (FIS-0001-0030G)
-
2. Configuration & Slide Switch Modes
The front panel features a manual 3-position slide switch used to route data paths and configure system parameters dynamically:
-
Position 1: KEYBOARD WEDGE * Normal operating mode. Scanned data is translated to keyboard strokes and output to the host via the keyboard line.
-
Position 2: CONFIG
-
Configuration/Setup mode. Allows direct communication setup between the host computer utility software and the scanner for programming firmware or parameter variables.
-
-
Position 3: SERIAL COMM
-
Configures the device for standard RS-232 serial data communication paths bypassing keyboard emulation.
-
3. Interface Connections & Ports
The module breaks out into dedicated, clearly labeled ports to manage communication and electrical power routing:
-
SCANNER Port: Side-mounted Sub-D DB9 female connector dedicated to plugging in the primary Microscan laser scanner cable assembly.
-
HOST / SERIAL Port: Side-mounted Sub-D DB9 male connector for standard RS-232 external terminal linking.
-
KEYBOARD IN Port: Dedicated port located at the top of the interface block for looping back the local workstation keyboard.
-
KEYBRD OUT / POWER IN Cord: Heavy-duty integrated cable assembly extending out of the bottom base, terminating in a circular connection layout to output signals to the host and draw operating power.
4. Mechanical & Electrical Data
-
Housing Profile: Rugged compact hand-held industrial polymer molding
-
Power Requirements: Draws operating power directly from the host computer’s keyboard port interface line or via an inline auxiliary external power supply adapter connection.
-
Cable Integrity: Shielded cordage with integrated heavy-duty rubber strain relief.
