OPTO 01 Optical Pulse Sensor
Model: OPTO 01
Standard: DIN 19 234 (NAMUR)
1. General Description
The OPTO 01 is an optical pulse generator designed for retrofitting onto consumption meters (such as water meters or heat meters). It detects the rotation of the meter’s register (typically a reflective segment on a rotating dial) and converts this movement into an electrical pulse signal.
The sensor conforms to the DIN 19 234 standard (NAMUR), making it a 2-wire current interface device. It is ideal for building automation, remote meter reading (AMR), and energy management systems.
Key Features 🎯
-
Optical Detection: Non-contact reading of meter dials using optical reflection.
-
NAMUR Standard: Compliant with DIN 19 234 interface (current loop signal).
-
Robust Design: Sealed housing with IP 65 protection against moisture and dust.
-
Simple Installation: Pre-cabled for easy integration into existing systems.
2. Technical Specifications
Electrical Data
| Parameter | Value |
| Standard Compliance | DIN 19 234 (NAMUR) |
| Operating Voltage | Typically 8.2 V DC (via switching amplifier) |
| Current Consumption | State dependent (typically < 1.2 mA / > 2.1 mA) |
| Connection Type | 2-Wire |
Environmental & Mechanical Data
| Parameter | Value |
| Max. Operating Temperature | 40°C (105°F) |
| Constant K | K=1000 (Meter compatibility factor) |
| Protection Class | IP 65 (DIN 40 050) |
| Housing Material | Plastic (Black) |
| Mounting | Clip-on / Screw-on (depending on meter type) |
3. Wiring
The sensor utilizes a 2-wire cable. As per the DIN 19 234 (NAMUR) standard, it requires a specific polarity to function correctly.
-
Brown (BRAUN): PLUS (+) Signal / Power
-
White (WEISS): MINUS (-) Ground / Return
Important Note:
Since this is a NAMUR (DIN 19 234) sensor, it acts as a variable resistor. It does not output a standard 24V PNP/NPN signal directly. It is typically connected to:
-
A NAMUR Isolation Amplifier.
-
A Pulse Logger or PLC input card specifically designed for NAMUR signals.
4. Applications
-
Remote reading of residential water meters.
-
Heat meter pulse generation.
-
Flow rate monitoring in building management systems.
